Valentines Day

Hearts Day 2012

Valentines Day this year was a muli-day affair. Monday night, Mike took me to Bella Monica where we had a DELICIOUS meal and bottle of wine. (Sorry, no photos) Afterwards, we headed home for Day1, Part 2 (as Mike called it) which involved a basket that had cheese, crackers and wine in it. We set up a little picnic in our basement on the faux fur blanket, and chatted well into the night.

faux Polar Bear, of course.

On *the actual* Valentine's Day, we headed to Durham to Broad Street Cafe. It's actually located right next to NCSSM, so I always get a little reminiscent when I go there.

They were having Periodic Tables, which is a monthly event where they team with NCMLS to bring in a speaker on various topics. As a bonus for this month, they had a keg of Sexual Chocolate. (A really hard to get a hold of beer..just trust me)

tap handle
They tapped the keg at 6pm and Mike got the last pint at 7:15

It was a really interesting talk, and we had great pizza and beer before we headed home for Day2 , part 2.
Mike brought home a nice bottle of Champagne.
"To celebrate us"
We've had champagne together before, to celebrate various other things, but this bottle was just for us.

I wouldnt let him open it with a knife.
Id never opened a bottle of champagne before, (it scares me) but I did that night. Mike even filmed it for you

It was a lovely couple days, with an absolutely lovely man :)

Science of Wine

Thursday night, we headed back to the Museum of Life and Science for "Science of Wine"

It did seem like there were fewer wineries, which was really sad, but we had a good time regardless.

smush, stomp, squash
We got to stomp grapes, which was really weird. They were harder to crush than you would imagine, and get stuck between your toes. Props to earlier generations who drank "foot wine" though, I don't know if I could...

Then, we followed the loud booming noise upstairs. (Possibly my favorite part)
You've seen people do it on tv, open champagne bottles with large sabres, and we saw someone do it that night.
the BLADES
The guys from The Wine Feed were doing a REALLY cool demonstration.  That I finally managed to get a good video of, so click below to check it out.

the cork, afterwards.

After that, it was craft time. They always have craft projects, and I always get really excited...

Mike managed to capture my "creativity" face (the tongue totally helps).
work. in. progress.

Afterwards, we had two really cool coasters to take home
it has glitter on it. trust me.
and a set of wine charms. One with NCSU colors and one with GT colors.

oooo
Finally, we headed to a station to see what brain chemical we are.
You can decide which is which.
smart.

We finished off the night guessing at wine corks (Answer 657ish, we guessed 412 and 395,) then headed out to Tylers for some snacks before calling it a night.

happy faces.

Weeknd Review 2-10

As far as weekends go, it was pretty relaxed. Friday night was Sushi and Knicks basketball (Linsanity!)

Followed by some delish Ben and Jerry's, some Pinot and a viewing of Sideways (which was excellent)
Saturday was spent catching up and getting ahead. We got a text from April and Jeremy that they needed help drinking some Izze, so we headed over. Middle of the night, we all discovered that we have iPhones, and then we all sang along with our favorite Whitney Houston song. Crack is Whack, y'all.

Pinterest-ing Wednesday

Oh Wednesday. I had SUCH a struggle getting out of bed today, only one more work day. (I'm taking a day off Friday)

Lets see what I dug up this week :)

I'll take this entire outfit please:

Happy Hearts Day

Atlanta, 2011
Happy Valentines Day everyone.
Hope you have an awesome day (if that's your thing, but it IS my thing..and it is my blog, so there).
Most of all, Happy Hearts Day to my best friend,
the one who makes me feel special every day,
the  one who fixes my sad and inspires me to be better
the one who makes my cheeks hurt from laughing and smiling,
my partner in crime and in life:

Olive.

oh, you thought I meant Mike?

Manicure Mondays!

It's Valentine's Day y'all!
Mike and I are headed somewhere nice for dinner tonight,
so I had to make sure my nails looked the occasion.

red and glitter!
Revlon Stiletto Red with Stila Firecracker on top (from the lovely April).
I LOVE this combination. It was really hard to capture the glitter in the photo, since it's not overwhelmingly in your face, but more a subtle shimmer. It almost *almost* looks like a jelly nail color.

on the HUNT!!

After I got my shiny new camera for Christmas, I've been itching to take it outside. However, I'm scared to do so until I have a *PADDED* camera bag to give it a safe cushioned home. That being said, I've found that I'm a bit picky about what I want in a new camera bag.

The Requirements:
1: No cloth fabric
2: must have padded spaces for the camera and lens, BONUS: they're adjustable or removable
3: room for additional goodies  MUST: my iPhone, a wallet, a small snapcamera  BONUS POINTS: iPad space!
4: I dont want to SCREAM "I AM A CAMERA BAG PLEASE STEAL ME!"
5: I want it to be pretty. Easy enough to wear that it looks like it "goes" with my outfit. :)
6: it needs to have two "sets" of handles. One that I can carry like a purse, and the other for slinging it across my body.

Ladies and gents: this is harder than I imagined it would be. Ugh, but I am starting to find a few that I like

First:

This little darling from Jo*totes ($109) is more the color range I was thinking of. I tend to stick to brightly colored flats (the brown would work) or rainbows, and if I do dare into black flats, I think the brown is dark enough to work. Normally, I'm not a big fan of exterior pockets though, so It's definitely a give and take. (The interior blue is super cute though!)
11*15.5*4
Inside Specs:
Removable shoulder strap/cross body strap, Zipper closure, Large zippered back pocket will hold ipad.
two front pickets, adjustable interior pads

Third:
camel clover

This bag, the Clover (in Camel) is from Epiphanie bags. ($185) It has tons of room inside, and looks really chic and classic.

Fourth:
sharp camera bag. NEED.

Another cute number from Epiphanie. The Lyric bag (in plum) is $155, and definitely stylish. I love the knotted straps. The purple is another bright color, but with how much I wear, it might as well be neutral. I think it would work with black or brown shoes, dont you?

Fifth:

This is a super classic shape and color from TheIT ($159) called the Bossi bag in Fawn.

Ok, so votes? Ideas? Opinions on which I should go for? Any mysterious benefactors that want to purchase a cool bag for me? <3
